Birthstone Jewellery Guide & Crystal Stories

Find a meaningful birthday gift, or a stone that feels like you. My handmade jewellery celebrates colour, personal connection and the stories we attach to crystals. Start with your birth month, then choose a piece you will love wearing.

Birthstone traditions vary, and you do not have to follow a calendar to find your favourite. This guide uses familiar birthstone associations and offers clearly labelled alternatives where a matching stone is not available. An alternative is a different stone chosen for its colour or character, not the named birthstone.

The linked collections contained in-stock pieces when this guide was prepared. Availability can change, so check the individual product's materials, measurements and stock before ordering.

January: Garnet

Love garnet's warm red character? For an alternative, explore the rich, warm tones of carnelian. Carnelian is a different stone, not garnet.

April: Diamond

For an alternative to diamond, explore quartz jewellery and choose a piece whose colour and finish suit the wearer. Quartz is not diamond and does not share its hardness or value.

May: Emerald

For an alternative inspired by emerald's green palette, browse malachite jewellery. Its individual patterns give it a character of its own; it is not emerald.

June: Pearl and Moonstone

June offers more than one direction. Choose freshwater pearl jewellery for a pearl gift, or explore moonstone if a gemstone feels more personal.

July: Ruby

For a warm-colour alternative to ruby, explore carnelian. Choose it for its own beauty rather than as a ruby substitute with the same properties.

How to choose a meaningful gift

Start with the birth month, then think about the jewellery they already wear. Would they reach for earrings, a necklace or a bracelet? Read the individual product description for the actual stones, metal components, dimensions and fastening. A collection can include mixed-stone designs, so the product details are the best guide to what you are buying.

Alternatives are welcome. A favourite colour, a personal memory or a crystal story can be just as meaningful as a traditional birthstone. Choose the piece that speaks to the person, not just the calendar.

The stories behind my crystals

My jewellery began with a love of crystals, their individual character and the meaning people find in wearing them. The original crystal guide explored balance, energy, chakras and spiritual harmony. These ideas remain part of the storytelling behind my work.

Agate is traditionally associated with grounding, protection and emotional balance. Amber, fossilised tree resin, carries a story of time, confidence and creativity. Amazonite is known in crystal traditions as the Stone of Courage and the Stone of Truth, a reminder to honour your own voice.

Amethyst is associated with intuition, meditation and inspiration. Aquamarine evokes the sea and is linked in crystal storytelling with calm and inner peace. Aventurine carries stories of confidence, prosperity and the strength of the Amazon Warrior Queens. Blue goldstone's starry appearance inspires stories of ambition and possibility, while blue lace agate is associated with gentle communication.

Sea glass tells a particularly lovely story of transformation: something once broken is softened by the ocean into a new form of beauty. Pearls carry associations of wisdom, sincerity and growth, while wood symbolises strength and our connection to the earth.

These associations are spiritual traditions and personal symbolism, not proven health effects or promises of healing. Jewellery is something to enjoy and connect with, not a replacement for medical advice or treatment.
